We have been at home these past four months (Jan-April 2024) learning and planning our next adventures!
Sailing
Last summer we started a series of sailing classes that required us to be home for a few months this year to finish. We completed American Sailing Association (ASA) courses 101 & 103 last summer, and this winter we finished 104, 118, as well as chartered 7 day sails on the San Francisco Bay where we were the co-captains. We took the classes through Modern Sailing based in Berkeley and Sausalito, and had great instructors. There were written and practical tests, hard work for a couple retired folks!
The Bay has sailing challenges with strong winds, large tides and strong currents, making it a great place to learn. It has also been lots of fun, the sights are spectacular, and we tried to go out as much as the weather would allow over this stormy winter. The result is we have enough training to rent and sail boats at fun spots around the world.
Los Angeles
We also did a bit of travel around CA, including a week in Venice Beach. Sarah moved down to LA so we had a great excuse to visit. Her office is two blocks from the beach and she lives within walking distance to downtown Culver City. What a fun area to live and explore!
Highlights included Huntington Library and Gardens, Warner Brothers Studios (Harry Potter, Friends, and Big Bang Theory pictures below), The Getty, and exploring Venice Beach.
What is Next?
We wrote this blog as we are about to leave on our next adventure. We will keep the details a surprise, but we can say it will involve sailing!!
Safe Travels!
Can’t wait to hear all about it. You two are an inspiration! Save travels.
